It’s Thanksgiving Week in the U.S. You’ve been busy scrambling to do everything a gym owner does and realized you should probably do something special for your coaches or members this week. Here’s a quick idea for you:

Every year we partner with a different local coffee shop. We go in and say “Hey guys, we own CrossFit [X] down the road and would like to buy our members a coffee for the next few weeks. Can we set up a code they can use to get their coffee billed to us?”

Some places just have us buy a big giftcard and we tell our members to screenshot it and use it until it runs out. Some places can open a tab and charge us at the end. We’ve even negotiated discounted rates because we’re referring people that will probably buy other items when they come in. In retrospect I wish we hadn’t done that though, I’d rather support the local shop anyway (and half the time the card doesn’t get used fully and I get a few coffees at the end of the year).

If you’re buying a giftcard, underestimate how many people will use it and go with something cheap. Keep tabs on it and go buy more if needed.

This is a quick and easy way to say thanks to your members and offer them a nice little perk. Some of the coffee shop workers might even get interested in your gym.

That being said, every owner reading this might not be in the spot financially to do this right now. We certainly weren’t our first year. That’s okay - keep reading every week and let’s make it so next year you can buy every member a coffee without thinking twice.
